The Udayagiri Fort is constructed of massive granite blocks that wrap around an isolated hillock.The tombs of Dutch Admiral Eustachius De Lannoy (in whose honour the fort was once known as Dillanai Kottai—De Lennoy’s Fort), his wife, and son can still be found inside the fort’s partly ruined chapel.

De Lannoy’s body was buried within the fort, and a chapel was constructed near his grave. De Lannoy’s tombstone is located within the ruins of the chapel. His stone bears inscriptions in both Tamil and Latin.
