The Pechiparai Reservoir is the district’s largest dam in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, in the foothills of the Western Ghats. It is 43 kilometers (27 miles) from Nagercoil, the district capital. This dam is being constructed across the Kothaiyar River. During the Thirunal period, this dam was built by the then Maharaja of Travancore during the period 1897-1906 by the European engineer Mr. Minchin. This dam meets the district’s agricultural and drinking water needs. The Western Ghats are the source of this river. Built at the bottom. This dam was originally 42 feet tall. The dam’s height was increased by 6 feet in 1964, and it stood at 48 feet in 1969.

The dam measures 425.5 metres in length and 120.7 metres in height. A small temple has been built here at Pachiyamman Beil, and the deity is also worshipped.
